Women in Private Debt
With a growing body of research indicating that more diverse teams and inclusive workplaces directly correlates with stronger business outcomes, the issue of diversity in private debt continues to move up the agenda. Preqin’s 2020 Women in Alternative Assets Report found the proportion of female employees in the alternative assets industry has grown to 19.7% from 18.8% in 2017.
Of all private debt employees, 18.9% are female, down slightly from 19.1%. Over a fifth of private debt employees in Europe are female, the region leads in the asset class making up a total of 22% of female employees in the alternatives space. The most consistent and high-performing location for female senior employees at private debt firms are France and Germany, representing a joint 17%. The two countries show double-digit marks in private debt followed by Sweden (14%), China (13%) and both Hong Kong and the UK holding 12%.
