The US leveraged loan market kicked off the new year in high gear, with $55.3b worth of deals launching to market during the week ending January 16th. It was the sixth busiest week for launches on record since Bloomberg began tracking the data in 2013 and marks the busiest week of primary market activity since July.

It helps that the largest leveraged loan since 2021 priced during the week, with Hologic contributing $8.75b to the weekly total through its new $7.25b term loan B and $1.5b second lien TL supporting its takeover by Blackstone and TPG.

The loan was one of several M&A financings to hit the market early in 2026, including Maclean Power Systems’ $2.01b TLB to support Blackstone Energy Transition Partners’ acquisition of the company and Columbus McKinnon’s $1.325b TLB backing its acquisition of Kito Crosby.
