Fund Managers are committed to ESG
Integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into the investment process is becoming a usual part of doing business for alternatives fund managers. The amount of capital raised by ESG-committed funds over the last five years has been unceasingly growing. In 2015, private capital ESG-committed funds secured $252bn, reaching a record high figure of $344bn in 2019. Of it, private equity holds the greatest proportion, but private debt holds a significant 16%, being the third asset class securing the highest amount with ESG-committed funds. So far this year, though, as of August 2020, private debt ESG-committed funds have secured $22.5bn, slightly less than half of the amount raised last year. However, with still four more months to finish the year, we expect figures to increase.
