Private debt AUM growth to accelerate in next five years
Preqin’s forecasting model expects private debt assets under management (AUM) to near $2.69tn by 2026 at a five-year compound annual growth rate of 17.4%, faster than the 12.8% achieved over the ten years to 2020. This is predicted to be the highest rate of growth across major private capital asset classes, setting up private debt to overtake real estate in net assets by 2023. In absolute terms, this means private debt AUM will more than double in the next five years. North America will remain by far the largest private debt market, with a projected AUM of $1.67tn by 2026, but strong growth is expected in APAC and Europe too.
