Private Debt Fundraising
Tips the Scales into Europe in Q1 2020
Fundraising fell in the first quarter of 2020 and the balance among the regions where funds are focused has slightly changed. Private debt funds focused on North America typically dominate the fundraising market, but in Q1 the balance shifted somewhat. In Q1 2020 there have been 13 funds closed focusing North America, raising a combined $7.3bn. Europe-focused funds have taken a little run in Q1 and have closed 6 funds securing an aggregate of $6.7bn. Although North America accounted for just over half of total capital raised, Europe-focused funds represented 46%, and this was achieved from over half the number of funds closed. Following these regions, Asia would be the next one contributing to the assets class, but just with four funds closed and raising $0.4bn, not even a three percent of the total amount secured in Q1 2020.
