Private debt fundraising slowed down in 2022. The number of funds that raised capital fell 30% from 283 in 2021 to 199 in 2022. However, the average size of private debt funds has grown to a record $1.3bn. As a result, despite fewer funds closing, aggregate capital raised grew by 2% from $225.9bn in 2021 to $226.4bn in 2022. Nonetheless, the slowdown shows that private debt is not immune to the difficult market environment, which have caused LPs to hold back on commitments to private market funds.
