I don't think there's a better place to be as an investor than in private credit.

Steven Sega

We’re excited to have our first guest, Steven Segal, joining us today on the podcast. Steve brings a wealth of experience to the table as a former Executive-in-Residence and Lecturer at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, where he created and taught a graduate-level course on private equity and leverage buyouts.

As a co-founding partner of J.W. Childs, Steve invested in middle-market growth companies, with a focus on consumer products, healthcare services, and specialty retail sectors. During his tenure, the firm completed over 40 transactions with a total transaction value of more than $11 billion.

Today, Steve is primary a private investor and collaborates frequently with others on early-stage ventures. With his vast experience and knowledge, we’re looking forward to diving deep into his insights on the world of private capital.

In this episode, we will explore the following topics:

  • Steven’s perspective as an active private credit investor on the current state of the capital markets, especially given the economic uncertainty.
  • How sophisticated investors approach dealing with risk.
  • The effectiveness of the classic 60/40 equities to fixed income allocation.
  • Steven’s perspective on the current debt landscape and the differences between public and private credit.
  • His insights on private capital manager selection.
  • Advice for LPs on evaluating investments in the current environment, based on his experience as an LP with enormous GP experience.
