The Bloomberg US Leveraged Loan Index (Ticker: LOAN) returned 0.32% in August, bringing its year-to-date return to 4.00%. Average secondary market prices on US leveraged loans were 96.92 on September 9th after declining slightly from a July 23rd peak of 97.25.
US loans underperformed other US fixed income asset classes including US HY (1.25%), US Aggregate (1.20%) as well as US Floating Rate Notes [FRN] (0.44%) this month.
Both US and European loan markets posted positive monthly returns, with the European Leveraged Loan Index (ELOAN) posting a 0.16% gain in August for a YTD return of 3.30%.
