Private equity deal value in North America increased to $98.7bn in Q3 2023, exceeding the five-year average of $84bn, and accounting for 40.8% of all private capital deals in the region. The increase was driven by carve-outs across IT, healthcare, and telecoms, and public-to-private deals, such as TowerBrook’s acquisition of healthcare IT company R1 RCM and Vista Equity Partners and Blackstone’s purchase of software firm Smartsheet, which brought a combined value of $17.3bn. This is the first time that deal value in North America has risen for three quarters in a row since the boom period from Q4 2020 – Q2 2021.
