Randy Schwimmer is founder/publisher of The Lead Left, successor to the popular weekly middle market newsletter, On The Left.

Mr. Schwimmer is also Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Senior Lending at Churchill Asset Management LLC. Affiliated with Nuveen, Churchill is a leading provider of customized financing solutions to middle market private equity firms and their portfolio companies across the capital structure.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Schwimmer was a Managing Director with The Carlyle Group. Widely credited with developing loan syndications for middle market companies, he has over 30 years of experience in middle market finance, having spent the majority of his career in loan syndications and distribution building and developing relationships with middle market lenders and investors in middle market loans.
At his position at Carlyle, Mr. Schwimmer, was responsible for all middle market loan capital markets activities, including loan structuring, syndications and distribution within the Carlyle GMS team. Mr. Schwimmer also had primary responsibility for co-managing the team’s origination platform, sourcing new business by tapping relationships with other mid cap participants. These include lenders – commercial finance companies, business development companies, mezzanine, hedge funds, and more traditional investors in middle markets loans and mezzanine securities – PE sponsors, and financial intermediaries such as investment banks.
Mr. Schwimmer joined Carlyle in November 2011 as part of its acquisition of Churchill Financial, a debt capital provider to middle-market companies. Prior to joining Churchill in 2006 as its Senior Managing Director and Head of Capital Markets, Mr. Schwimmer was a Managing Director and Head of Leveraged Finance Syndication for BNP Paribas where he structured and syndicated leveraged transactions for the bank’s private equity clients. Before that, he spent 15 years at JP Morgan Chase in Corporate Banking and Loan Syndications in several capacities where he was responsible for originating, structuring and syndicating leveraged loans, including cash flow and asset-based loans along with junior debt such as mezzanine and high yield securities.
Mr. Schwimmer is regularly quoted in leading industry publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, The Deal, Buyouts, Fortune.com, peHUB Wire, IDD, High Yield Report, Leveraged Finance News, Bloomberg News, and M&A. He has also been seen on Bloomberg TV, Fox Business News, Reuters Insider, thestreet.com, and the BBC.
In addition, he is a frequent speaker at conferences, such as Reuters LPC Annual Loan Conference, Buyouts East and West, and the MasterClass Capital Roundtables, and is a member of the Thomson Reuters Advisory Board and both the ACG-NY and ACG-Global Boards. Finally, he has taught classes in corporate finance and capital markets at Boston University School of Management and Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business.
